Is the yellow version var formosa?
This ID has been troubling me a little and I'd appreciate it if you can differentiate the specimen from Amanita echinocephala for me.

At this stage it is quite

At this stage it is quite difficult to be sure which way it will turn out. A muscaria var formosa has a yellow stipe or a yellow pileus or a yellow veil depending on which book you use. A echidnocephala could look like this but as it is a very rare species I would not give that as a suggestion until it was fully opened and showed its grey/white cap.
