Large Red Tailed Bumble Bee?

Description:

Found sunning itself amung many others. Entire head and thorax black, with a large red band near the ovtipoiser.
(Holding my breath and hoping for the best got that tip frop Chris Packham, it works!)

I heard that too and have never been stung by Bumble Bee's but I don't think there aggressive not like Wasp's

Stings

Fenwickfield, Ya it really works ive had all sorts on my hands and have never bee stung by a wasp but once by a bee (when I was younger)I don't think wasps are agressive I've hung around nests and havn't been stung. I think it's just they're more equipt to sting because they're parasitic, unlike bees, and will do so more often :-)
