hoverfly

The excellent photo shows that this is a male hoverfly (eyes meet at top of head, male genital capsule can be seen at tip of abdomen), and the characteristic long, thin shape and bright yellow colours (including yellow stripes on side of thorax) show that it is genus Spaerophoria.
This genus includes quite a lot of species, most of which require microscopic examination to be identified, but for one species males can be recognised in the field due to their abdomen being significantly longer than the wings - this is Spaerophoria scripta, which is what is photogrpahed here.
