Description:

I would be grateful if someone could confirm the identity of this dead shrew. I found it on the grassy bank between small irrigation channels, but can't decide if it is water shrew or common shrew.

Shrew

When fur gets wet and matted on a dead animal it invariably goes very dark/black. The tail length, being shorter than the body rules out pygmy shrew and the general shape rules out water shrew, just not bulky enough.
