Description:

There were lots of earthballs in this area but only this one had these strange scales peeling off the top.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Yes they are the scales but I have never seen them peel off to this extent before.

It was and had been very wet, perhaps that had an impact.
