perhaps scutellina subhirtella rather than s. scutellata?? hairs look rather shorter than normal.

I would agree with your suggestion but to split between the other 20 species would need a microscope.
flaxton very generously had a look at the specimen for me and the spores are shown in the third image. Here is his comment
"hairs up to 1200 and spores "granular" but with no real ornamentation in Lactophenol Cotton Blue and right in the centre of the range for S scutellata"
will let him change the ID to this species.
