This is literally the second Housemartin I've seen this year, and like the other it was all alone, although the midgies were all over. What's happening?

House martin observation

Hi,
It's strange I have seen loads of house martins this year. I sat for an hour this weekend hiding behind a grass bank watching them drink/collect mud for repairs from a puddle after a heavy downpoor. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me.

You may have your spirits lifted a little if you read the BTO survey report from 2008 that suggested that house martins are not declining!

House Martin in Yorkshire

The house martin colony in the church in my village is down four nests on last year (10 nests this year), however, it does tend to fluctuate year on year.

House Martin Numbers

Hi all

We have plenty in Norfolk and Suffolk also. They were late coming in though.
