Description:

I frequently come across bees covered in a white dust when they are visiting balsam. am I to take it that this is pollen or a fungal infection?

It is the Himalayan balsam pollen. You see white wasps as well.

And this is a wasp and not a honey bee. Check the folding of the wings!!
