Sick Sparrow

Observed: 23rd October 2011 By: anonymous spotter

Description:

The photo doesn't show it at all well, but this bird appears to have growths around the beak suggestive of avian pox.
This is the first one I've seen around the area.

Finch family

I thought it only affected the finch family, they suggest you wash all the feeders I use Milton (baby bottle sterilizing fluid) also wash out bird bath weekly and have had one greenfinch death but was not sure if it just died of natural causes as there were no marks on it.I am no expert but it does look ok and there is no wet area's around the beak, not fluffed up either maybe it is just a seed sticking out.

Beak

There is clearly something wrong with the beak; it looks as though the upper mandible has been broken and the bottom one has grown beyond it? There also does seem to be some growth at the base. Difficult to say what might have caused this, without a clearer view, I suspect.
