If you are trying to establish what made the hole it might be better to post this as a mammal observation (because it is a mammal record) and this would attract the attention of the mammal experts.

if the teeth marks appear on the outside edge of the hole then generally it is likely to be a mouse that knawd the nut, it the teeth marks are on the inside edge of the hole then it is likely to be a bank vole
