It's not really clear in the photo, but are the stems furrowed? I think R. acris has smooth stems... Any idea of the leaves?
There were very few leaves, I should have photoed them, this was a tall Buttercup, not like the creeping Buttercup.

I think you were right first time! My book (Blamey, Fitter and Fitter) mentions the 'unfurrowed stalks' as a distinguishing feature, but the height etc. suggests R. acris to me too (a buttercup non-expert)!
The more I look into things the more complex it becomes! ( as someone who used to think she could id a Buttercup)
