Trentepohlia is a 'Green Alga' (Chlorophyta) but one in which orange pigment masks the green of the chlorophyll. It seems to be increasing on tree-trunks.
Some lichens contain Trentepohlia as their algal partner.
Many thanks. I had opriginally thought this was a yellow alga, but then came across the other i/d, so thought I must be wrong. So not altogether unexpected that you i/d it as an alga.

I've seen this on many trees, particularly those with a rough bark in wooded areas.
