Waxcaps

The genus Hygrocybe includes some of our most colourful species. Intra-species colour variation means that this character is a less important aid to identification than cap and stipe texture, which may be dry, greasy or viscid (slimy). Spores are white. Most species favour unimproved grassland, particularly where it is grazed or cut; they fruit in late summer and continue through to very late autumn. Hope this helps. Regards
