Definitely not a Fomes but not sure what it is.
Have you a photo from underneath. Did it have round pores or elongated slots?
No photo's of the underneath. I'm thinking of going back though, so will try to get one & also to look more closely at the tree trunk. It's hard to tell what tree it is as there are no leaves or branches, but i'l take a photo of that too! Thanks.
