ClimbingPlant

Observed: 18th October 2011 By: WonderWoman
ClimbingPlant
Description:

The plant looks like a garden escape to me rather than a native wild plant, because its leaves are so dark. It was climbing up a fence and surrounded by brambles.

Bittersweet??

Thank you for IDs.
What a beautiful name!
But I looked at the other observations of it, and none of them has the curiously dark leaves of my specimen, though leaf shape is right.
Any more thoughts?

Purple leaves

I agree that the leaves usually are green. I haven't seen any with this purple tinge, but apparently they can have. I found this image:

Leaves often have the lateral lobes seen here.
