Lace cocoon and thing

lace cocoon and thing

Found on outside of window frame. It seems to be open 'lacework'. The ruler is 1mm dimensions. Different backgrouds to try to show lacework and the beastie inside it.

No leeks or onions around

No leeks or onions around here that I know of. Though some one may grown them in the 'village'.

Do try to rear the moth from

Do try to rear the moth from the cocoon. I don't think there are any records of Leek Moth as far north as this observation. Similarly, records of closely related species with this type of open network cocoon seem thin on the ground or non-existent in NW Scotland.

There are other yponomeutids with a mesh-like cocoon, for example Plutella spp. Best to rear it to be sure.
