Am sure I have seen the project doing the leg ringing of these godwits somewhere but can't remember where.

It turns out the bird with the colourful legs was ringed in Iceland. There is indeed a project looking at ringed black tailed godwits: http://www.uea.ac.uk/~b026515/schemes.html but it may be best to contact the people involved directly by email if the website does not accept your record. It did not accept my record but the real people were very helpful!
Update on the bird, it has been tracked since 2003. Seen many times in the area here where i saw it but also in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire and in Iceland. Remarkable to know about its travels.
