Unusual distribution

Thanks for the ID. I noticed from the NBN map that it has an unusual distribution, being seen as far north as Scotland but sparsely seen in Cornwall and Devon.

Why would this be?

Campanula rotundifolia

I've looked in some wild flower books, and while they agree that C. rotundifolia grows in dry, grassy places, fixed dunes, rock-ledges, and often on poor, shallow soils, they seem to be divided about distribution. Some go as far as calling it 'rare' in SW England, whilst others say it is 'locally common' and grows in 'suitable places throughout Britain and Ireland'. It makes you think there must be something it 'dislikes' there - climate, soil, etc!
I guess it has found it's 'niche' away from the SW, possibly due to excessive competition for survival there... Any theories?
