Description:

Medium sized dragonfly spotted in the New Forest. It perches vertically and is near invisible against the ferns and gorse. I think it is a Southern Hawker but every picture I see seems a little different in shape and colour. It was just over 4.5" long with a similar wing span. I am sure it's much later in the year than normal to still see dragonflies.

This is a Female, both sexes

This is a Female, both sexes can be identified by the spots on S9 and S10 being joined to form bands (instead of paired spots as in the other hawkers) Flight season for A cyanea is from July into November weather permitting.
