What colour was the milk?
I didn't break it. I will check this when I go down there next - in a day or so.
I visited the fungus again and broke a bit off. It was very leathery and hard to tear. When I did tear it, there was no milk inside, being very dry. See IMG_1950 and 1 above.
I broke a piece of another, younger fungus close by (apparently the same species) and this was also dry and a bit leathery with no milk. See IMG_1952.
It has been unusually hot and dry here recently.
