Description:

Found at base of tree. Reddish brown top slightly moist, stems not really very visible, gills white - I think specimen is quite old due to dry conditions.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Current name

I have added agreement to "Collybia fusipes", but it is not a true Collybia.

The currently accepted correct name, confirmed by DNA work, is Gymnopus fusipes. I think this will prove to be a stable name-change, so worth getting used to it.

N.B. Phillips 1981 is now 30 years old! Excellent book, but names and concepts have moved on.
