7-Spot hibernating
Description:

This photo was taken of one willow herb head in a patch in the clearing of a wood. There were some 20 heads each containing upwards of 10 insects.
Do 7 Spots hibernate this way.
I have found them in the curled heads of Wild Carrot in previous years.

Window frame

I have found them in two window frames in Hampshire. There was about a 500ml measuring jugs crammed full of them in total. The fitter had to drive away with them all over the inside of the wind screen after fitting the new windows.

Yes, 7-spots will overwinter

Yes, 7-spots will overwinter like this - I found several thousand last winter overwintering on the flower stalks of rhododendrons. It seems to be particularly prevalent when the ladybirds are present in big numbers, as they usually primarily overwinter in leaf litter
