Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

It was found in the grass, in an area that was slightly open among trees. They are about 5-6 cm wide and 3 cm high, they are dry and not slimy. They are white and cerise in colour.
Did you notice if it had any distinctive smell, or if the gills bruised any colour when squashed?
The gills did not bruise and I cant answer the question about the smell as I have a cold.
There are several Russulas with red caps, so I don't think that it is possible to be more specific - which isn't unusual in my experience by the way :-)
