Growing on a tallish Sweet Chestnut stump with windfall trunk near by with just moss on it. It was growing in a "stack" along a vertical crack. I have seen very few fungi on sweet chestnut. There is signs of last years offering round to the left of this one. It had almost totally crumbled into the leaf litter. There is plenty of other dead chestnut wood near by with no fungi on it. It was "leathery" but flexible with pores on the under side.
