Sorry, I am not sure what to make of this. I think the ochre-orange/bleached white material may well be algal. The black might be a cyanolichen, but I don't know these enough to make a suggestion.
Alan, This is all over the cliff face on the southern aspect of Hengistbury Head, from small to large areas. There seems to be a lot of ironstone (sorry if that is a misleading term) on and around the cliffs.
