Fungus on fungus?

This is an odd one. We have a fungus growing on another fungus. I am no expert so i have shown some images of what i think is one without the extra fungus on it. They were growing in a slag heap cover plantation with oak and alder close by. Not mature woodland.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

My local expert gets quite interested in molds growing on other fungi. Microscopic work needed to ID them though.

You will need to as it will fade in a day or two then a second visit will be a waste of time...

It is probably a Hypomyces

It is probably a Hypomyces (the Bolete Mould) which as Paxillus is part of the Bolete family would fit well.
