Description:

Found in clumps on a large old dead stump close to the pavement. There were about 8 clumps in all growing amongst ivy, bramble, moss and leaf litter (mostly oak).

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

If the gills turn dark

If the gills turn dark green/yellow then fasciculare it is but if there is little green and more grey then H capnoides is more likely

Many thanks for your info - very helpful. Unfortunately my specimen has gone to a vile slimy mess in the bottom of a plastic bag so I will have to get another to check the result of the change of gill colour before I revise my observation.
