Found these growing in a wood near me, this part of the wood was cut down a month ago,do they grow because there is more light or is it dampness that make them grow?

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Fungi aren't photosynthetic

Fungi aren't photosynthetic at all- they get all of their energy from the substrate (in this case bark and woodland floor) so they don't rely on light to grow.

I've been told that many commercial mushroom growers take up plots of land underneath motorways as the dark dank place is perfect for mushroom growth.
