I was looking at the Trentepohlia and lichen competition but after seeing http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/20902 wondered if similar might be lurking here..

I assume you mean the orange-coloured case in the top left of your photo? If so it doesn't look long and thin enough for Taleporia to me, and could be one of the lichen case-bearers in genus Dahlica. However, I'm not familiar with those, and I must admit that from the photo alone it could just be a rolled up bit of lichen!
