Red/orange soft crumpled "petals" emerging from crack in bark of treebranch

Its a fungus, possibly a Tremella sp.

I'm not sure how you reached your possible ID but if you look at some of the Cladonia's in the link below you'll find they are very different to your specimen:

Its Tremella Mesenterica a fungus. Lower photo orange fungus on tree on irishlichens.ie. Thanks!. its edible and used in Chinese soup(also called Witches Butter).
