Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!
Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
No interactions present.
The colour and texture look wrong for H. coccinea. There are quite a number of red species, and they are best checked with a microscope (cuticle and spore characters).
This is either a pendulous species or the photo is upside down!
Thanks for your comments. The photo is the right way up, but was taken from overhead in awkward, windy conditions. The mystery mushroom had emerged at the side of a track.
I have been considering getting a microscope for a while, and now have even more reason.
Thanks for taking another look Alan - greatly appreciated. Unlikely though it may be, this mushroom was pointing earthward. The ground was compacted, but it's possible that it had been recently disturbed.
I can now appreciate that, visually at least, H. miniata is a far better match.
