Wasp(?) with Gold Waistcoat

Description:

Long narrow dark wasp/fly, about 12-15mm length, in staffordshire kitchen, then settled on outside of window.
Camera wouldn't focus due to glass - sorry.
Bug eyes with slight green irredescence.
Gold waistcoated thorax, a larger area is gold than the photo suggests.

Sargus???

At that size it is one of the larger species, perhaps Sargus bipunctatus? But Murdo is right to be cautious, we can't see enough detail to make a certain ID.
