How do you know it's a bank vole?

It's a very neat hole in the fruit. How can you tell it's a bank vole rather than a field vole? I'd like to learn.

Hole

A very neatly chewed hole indicates bank vole. Why not field vole, easy field voles do not eat nuts they are almost exclusively grass munchers.
