Another key way to be certain that this is Q. robur is to look for the earlobes at the bottom of the leaf.
Q. patraea (Sessile Oak) the next most commonly spotted Oak has a "v" profile to the bottom of the leaf.
Dont just rely on these two features alone though - but they do help you to make up your mind.
Thanks for that. I do have difficulties deciding between the two types. I unnderstand that hybrids are possible. Do you know how to identify these?
