Martin Harvey's picture

a bumblebee

From the photo it can be seen that this bee has collected an impressive amount of pollen in the pollen baskets on her hind legs (the orange 'bags' that can be seen on either side of her), so she is a worker bee, and she is a true bumblebee not a cuckoo bee.

I can't say which species though without seeing more of her, especially the tail.

(Ignore my first identification, either white or buff-tailed bumblebee, I was forgetting that that are also orange-tailed alternatives!)

I agree B. terrestris or B.

I agree B. terrestris or B. lucorum are the two likely alternatives (with buff and white tails respectively). These can be difficult to tell apart in the field, even if you get a good view of their bottoms!
