I think if your camera is there you have to take a picture,plus it add's interest to the site too.I would have said it was a Ichneumon wasp as not all have a tail (pointy bit) on there rear,sorry but don't know the technical term.

Yes, you're right: but I just feel annoyed that I don't know anything like enough about these - and many other - groups of organisms.

such a wide field

I feel the same so decided to try and learn about 4 group's Bumble bee's, caterpillars,Ichneumon and sawfly's.There are a couple of good websites for insect's but I don't think we can ever know about all of them.I notice that the expert's all specialise in certain area's.I think if you pick a area then you can get book's that specialise in that subject as the rest are too general,so don't be dis-heartened.
