Description:

Growing in leaf litter under mostly deciduous trees (propped up on grass for the photo as it was too dark in the wood). Very clean smooth white cap, about 10cm across. Substantial ring. Is that a volva or just a swollen base? Maybe not an Amanita? Pinky-brown gills that are free from the stem. Cap peeled easily about half way.

Thank you.

Looks very possible. Next time I'll know to try cutting the base of the stem to see if it is a yellow-stainer. It was really rather beautiful, and no holes in it at all.
