yarrellii

Super pictures, but I am not sure that they necessarily allow an agreement with yarrellii, as the visible features are shared with alba, I think.

Thanks for your

Thanks for your comments.

This bird was very dusky along the flanks, a feature that strongly points to yarrellii. Alba would have pale flanks.

You are probably right that the picture does not allow for racial identification but I was watching it for about 20 minutes and had views down to 30cm.

Derek.

yarrellii

I was not doubting you at all! I am sure you will be right: You will have seen the whole plumage. :)

It does raise the general question of whether it is right to agree with an ID when you cannot actually be certain of the ID, based upon the pictures provided. Are the six people agreeing doing so because they can see the ID features for yarrellii in the photos, or because they trust your reputation and experience and so assume you will be right?

And does it matter, anyway... ;)
