That's a very interestiing observation Alan, I'd like to know what you've seen? I'll have a good look at the Sycamore aphid too.
Beaneath the aphid is a silken plate which is the coccoon of the parasite (a tiny wasp). Also, the aphid looks a rather odd colour and not all it's feet seem to be firmly on the leaf. See -
