Gentianella ciliata Fringed Gentian
Description:

Was out for a walk looking for fungi and came across this, had no idea it was growing there. Note this observation is back in 1993 but seen it growing in same place more recently too. Its so rare that location is very approximate (a nearby town), county recorder is aware of records and other people keep an eye on it.

A famous case of being overlooked

Britain's Rare Flowers (Poyser Natural History) 1999.
(ISBN 10: 0713671629 / ISBN 13: 9780713671629 )
Peter Marren p. 227-228

First discovered in 1875 but the record was not believed.
Rediscovered in 1982. Thought to have been overlooked because
it flowers so late. People who are looking for fungi may find it (as above).
