It does look most like a palmate newt (the dorsal stripe is reasonable common in palmate newts and very rare in smooth newts) and given its location and habitat I would think this is most likely, so I agree.

Palmate newts are now in the genus Lissotriton. If you add another ID with this name it will hopefully link up to other sightings of this species.
