Description:

a very secretive snake of Southern Lowland Heath habitat. mainly in Dorset and Surrey. one of the UKs rarest animals and until Victorian times, often mistaken for Adder. non venomous but bites readily on handling im told.
"smooth" in the common name refers to its unkeeled scaling.
