Description:

When I want the upperside of a butterfly, I am usually presented with the underside. The opposite is also true. Happily, here are both aspects of the same French individual on the same French Scabious flower (my wife says).
Despite being on a Scabious and despite my remaining pants at Fritillaries, The underside particularly leads me to fancy this for a Knapweed Fritillary but am more than prepared to be corrected.
[Hmmm, it's in both my books though not in the iSpot database. Worrying!]

Confirmation

Apparently, the very much larger 3rd lunule on the upper fore-wing is diagnostic for Knapweed Fritillary, I have since discovered.
