Wagtail

It is a difficult angle from which to judge! Do you have any pictures from the side, at all? What can be seen of the face looks good, but I cannot see any yellow/green tones. If those tones are there (I am colour-blind!), then I agree.

I notice Carstairs has gone for Pied, so I imagine there are no yellow/green tones on the mantle/vent. In which case, Pied is likely.

yellow

there are slight yellow tones to mantle but I have seen this in pieds many times. Side view would be better.

These are the only two photos

These are the only two photos I managed to get; I was a fair way away. As Carstairs says, there are yellow tones, this is what led me to believe it was the Yellow Wagtail, it also seems to have a fairly clear stripe above its eye. I guess I may never know now but appreciate your comments. Carstairs, may I ask what features make you so sure it is Pied, so I know for the future? Also, what are the mantle and vent - I can see colour on the head and slightly on the tail/feathers Thanks, Lynda

Mantle...

The mantle is the area above the wings, on the back. The vent is the area behind the legs and before the undertail.
