Smooth newt - not lizard!

Many thanks for the identifications.
I assumed it was a lizard because I've always associated newts with water & there are no ponds close by. Also, it was found in a hot, dry part of the garden. I have found a couple of similar looking ones in different parts of the garden over the past 5 years - possibly the same one?

Smooth newts will happily use

Smooth newts will happily use very small ponds so if one of your neighbours has a garden pond it could have come from that. It's possible that you have seen the same newt several times but where there's one there's likely to be more.
