Polecat kitten seen at BBOWT College Lake, Nr Tring, Herts
No interactions present.
Looks very like my pet ferret, but this one's mask is darker. Its nose should get black as it gets older, if not - it's a cross.
It is almost impossible to tell a pure polecat from the hybrid polecat ferrets. In fact it has been said there are no pure polecats left, they all have some ferret genes in them.
However, it does have all the markings of a pure polecat. Are there known 'pure' polecats on the reserve?

I don't know about these particular animals at College Lake, but elsewhere in Buckinghamshire a number of roadkill sightings of Polecat have been verified as such by the Vincent Wildlife Trust, who have been monitoring the species. Some of these were verified from photos, a few from the dead bodies. See:
The College Lake ones have been on the tele as well, so they must be true!

Oh well, if they have been on the tele they must be real!
