Description:

Hornet-sized wasp or fly, the abdomen is much brighter yellow than a hornet - almost lemon-coloured. Thick black, possibly with metallic sheen, stripe on the abdomen, just where it joins the thorax. Then five thin black stripes to the 'tail'. Can't see a sting, seems very dopey, good set of jaws, 4 wings, 2nd set much shorter, wings much longer than abdomen. Found in cattle-grazed parkland below a beech tree.

Very Rare Giant Sawfly!

Very exciting! I found this report from 2009 of a Cimbex Luteus found in Radley: http://www.radleyvillage.org.uk/news/news0083.htm
