Species with which Sphaerophoria interacts

A difficult genus of hoverflies. Females, which have eyes separated (males have eyes touching on top of the head) can only be reliably identified if found joined in copulation to a known species male. S. scripta males can be identified because at rest their wings fall well short of the end of the abdomen...all other species require genitalia consideration. Realistically, then, they are all just' Sphaerophoria' unless you have a male scripta. That's a bit simplified (!), but about right for ID from photographs.
