PS

There are also similar galls of P nigra and its hybrids:
A "pouch" gall on one side of the petiole - caused by the aphid Pemphigus bursarius;
and two types of "spiral" gall
If 2-3 twists - P. spyrothecae
More than 3 twists - P. protospirae.

Take your pick!
