Description:

Another plant that I'm not sure where to start with. Tiny five-petalled flowers that are whitish with a green 'mid-rib' (assuming they are petals and not tepals or something). Alternate leaves that appear to be covered in a fine dusting of hairs, but under the microscope this appears to be some sort of fungal network (mildew?). The flowers arise in the leaf-axils. At each axil there is some sort of sheath (bract? looks rather like a ligule on a grass). Growing along roadsides of a country lane.

Knotgrass

Many thanks Tim, that looks a likely solution.
